At Checkmat Zurich, we are proud to be part of one of the most respected and successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teams in the world: Checkmat, led by multiple-time world champion Léo Vieira and his brothers Leandro and Ricardo Vieira. Our Head Coach, Vinícius Azevedo, trained directly under Master Ricardo Vieira and was promoted to black belt within this prestigious lineage.

Checkmat has a strong presence in over 20 countries and supports its athletes at major international tournaments such as the IBJJF Worlds, Pan Ams, and European Championships—with access to elite-level preparation camps alongside world champions.

Coach Vinícius brings deep experience from Brazil to Switzerland. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, he began his journey in 2012 under legendary Grand Master Osvaldo Alves, earning his belts up to purple before joining Fightzone Rio, Checkmat’s elite competition team. In 2020, just months after moving to Zurich, he won the AJP Tour Zurich International Pro.
